AI Policy Statement

This statement outlines how personal information is handled by Jeddle in connection with AI, particularly as it relates to its marking tools.

Data Collection

Jeddle collects the following data from schools for platform functionality and feedback generation:

  • First names, last names, and email addresses of teachers and students.
  • Handwritten and typed student responses uploaded to the platform.
  • Metadata associated with task submissions and feedback.

Purpose for Processing

Personal data is used for:

  • Generating feedback using AI, including handwritten work scanning and curriculum-aligned annotations.
  • Improving platform functionality and enhancing AI feedback consistency and accuracy.
  • Providing insights and reports for educators to identify skill gaps and improve learning outcomes.

Data Sharing

Jeddle will not disclose any identifiable personal information or confidential data of the School or its students to any third party unless:

1. The disclosure is strictly necessary for the operation of the platform, e.g. to trusted sub-processors:

  • Cloudflare (security and performance)
  • Datadog (monitoring and diagnostics)
  • Google Cloud (data storage and hosting)
  • Google Analytics (usage analytics)
  • Gemini Pro 1.5 (AI model provider for feedback generation).

2. The third party is bound by confidentiality obligations and complies with Australian privacy laws, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW).

3. The School has been notified of such disclosures, including via Jeddle’s Privacy Policy and contract terms.

Data is de-identified or anonymised wherever possible.

Retention Periods

  • Personal data is retained for up to 6 months after a School subscription ends, subject to an alternative agreement with the School.
  • After this period, all data is anonymised and de-identified, ensuring it cannot be traced back to any individual or institution.

Individual Rights

Teachers, schools, and students have the right to:

  • Access: Request details of the data collected and processed by Jeddle.
  • Rectify: Correct inaccuracies in their personal data.
  • Withdraw: Stop the use of personal data in AI processing by notifying Jeddle.

Consent and Ethical AI Use

  • Consent: Schools provide consent for the collection and processing of data on behalf of their teachers and students via agreements in the terms of service. Consent may be withdrawn any time via written communication e.g. emailing contact@jeddle.com
  • Bias Mitigation: AI results are tested using qualified educators and actual marking data to ensure fairness and consistency.
  • Explainability: Teachers retain control over AI-generated feedback, with the ability to review, edit, and customise all outputs.

Notification of Policy Changes

Jeddle will notify users via email of any changes to this policy within 7 days of implementation.
